Engine Rebuild

Attention to details is particularly important in the engine rebuild process. For example, it matters if your bolts are torqued to spec in the correct order, gaps in piston rings installation are within tolerance, or the cylinder heads are perfectly flat when you deck them. I firmly believe details in this step are less forgiving than other parts of the rebuild.

Pistons and Gaskets

Replaced the piston rings, pistons, and gaskets. Most of these items come in kits, and it’s probably best to replace anything rubber that’s over 50 years old.

Soda Blasting and Painting

All aluminum chrome pieces were sanded and polished. Everything else was soda blasted, painted, and cured. Soda blasting is a great option because it removes dirt/grime, but it doesn’t leave pieces of sand. The baking soda disolves with water.

When you get to the point of assembly, I referred to the Honda tech manual for not just torque settings, but the order in which things should be tighten down.
